Can the Dins send the Terriers back home disappointed?
The game may be delayed, but it will still be played
Wofford at Furman | 7:00 PM | ESPN+
The Paladins enter a huge rivalry test with Wofford after a longer delay than expected, thanks to winter weather conditions in Greenville and across the South. In their last time out, the Dins escaped a thrilling game against The Citadel in Charleston, 67-63. Despite the win, Furman has gotten off to what amounts to slow start in conference play, given their scorching hot non-conference slate. They suffered a disappointing drop-off in performance against UNC Greensboro, the hottest team in the league. The Paladin defense looked like it bounced back in the first half against The Citadel with 10 turnovers, but the team performance seemed to lag throughout the second half, leading to the tight finish.
Furman’s early success has shown that they are capable of competing at a high level, but consistency will be key moving forward. Wofford, always a tough opponent, will provide another big test. Coach Richey will have to make some adjustments to find offense outside of the starting backcourt. SoCon teams are more disciplined against the dribble handoffs, as their coaches are used to facing Coach Richey’s offense. Offense from guys like Charles Johnston, Eddrin Bronson and Tom House must become something to expect, rather than a pleasant surprise on some nights.
Wofford College has had an up-and-down season so far, with the Terriers showing flashes of promise but struggling with consistency. Coming into their game against Furman, Wofford holds a record of 8-8 and is looking to build momentum as Southern Conference play intensifies. The Terriers rely heavily on seniors Cory Tripp and Kyler Filewich, who have been key contributors on both ends of the floor. Tripp provides scoring out of the backcourt, while Filewich is a strong presence in the paint chasing down nearly every ball that doesn’t go through the net.
Despite their .500 record, the Terriers have proven they can compete with strong opponents, and their defensive strategy has often kept them in close games. However, they need to improve their offensive consistency, particularly in high-pressure situations. Wofford has struggled with turnovers at times, and finding scoring depth beyond Tripp and Filewich remains a critical challenge. The matchup with Furman has been tight through the years, and despite their offensive struggles, Wofford will find plenty of motivation to put the ball in the net on Monday.
